Maybe She's Born With It, Maybe It's Not A Shitty Mascara.

Today I'm going to be reviewing a few of the drugstore mascaras that I've tried, giving reviews on my experience with them. Keep in mind this is my experience, and these mascaras could work differently for you depending on the type of lashes you have. You should also know my biases toward mascaras lean highly toward the quality of color and how well it separates. That's really what I look for in a mascara so naturally I'll give those products a better review.
I'll be reviewing three drugstore mascaras and one high-end mascara to show you the differences and what to look out for.
Let's go!

The first mascara I'd like to cover is Maybelline's The Rocket Volum' Express.

Pro's: Smooth application, I purchased the waterproof version of this mascara and it did resist the water very well.
Con's: Clumped badly, didn't volumize well, very flaky.

I purchased that mascara in a dark brown shade,
just to accentuate my eyecolor. By the first application I already disliked it, It did not give my lashes any volume, instead I found it clumped no matter how hard I tried, or how little product I used. After about a month or two it had already dried out. Removing this mascara was a chore, I had to wait until I showered the next morning and use two different makeup removers to get it to come off. However this is a problem you face with almost every water-resistant mascara is that it...well... resists water.
Overall stars out of 5:  *

The next mascara I'd like to discuss is the Revlon Lash Potion Grow Luscious Volume and Length mascara.

Pro's: Beautiful dark brown color, applies quickly, provides fair volume.
Con's: Transfers onto your lid, takes a very long time to dry, clumping isn't a huge problem with this mascara however it's still an obstacle.

After purchasing the Rocket mascara I found the Revlon Lash Potion. I was quick to enjoy this mascara, it had a wonderful color, and didn't clump on the first coat. It didn't quite give me as much drama as I was hoping for, but it was still a good every-day mascara. I purchased this product in Blackened-Brown, coupled with a darker brown gel eyeliner it looked great. There isn't much more to say about this other than it's a good standby mascara when you need something quick and not-too-dramatic. Would I repurchase it? Probably not, it was just a bit run-of-the-mill for my taste.

Let's talk about falsies now. We've all heard of these mascaras, some beauty gurus swear by them. I however, have had a different experience.
I've tried a lot of this brand of mascara, but I'm going to talk about The Falsies Winged mascara today.

Pro's: Rich dark black color, potion was not too thick or dry, lasted for months.
Con's: Did not wing lashes as advertised, transfers badly, clumps, hard to apply.

This mascara was indeed high-drama, that can either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how it was applied. It was a very picky mixture, and with the slightly confusing curved wand, it was an adventure to figure out how to use. Once you solve the puzzle however it's a fairly decent product. I was not too overly impressed as when you would apply over one coat it would become overly shiny, as if it was too oily. I don't think I'll be purchasing this again, but if you're feeling brave go ahead and try it for yourself and tell me how it worked for you!

Now for our high-end mascara.
I'll be reviewing the Sephora Outrageous Volume brand product today, a reasonable beginning step into the confusing realm of the professional makeup world.

Pro's: Deepest black color I'd ever received in a mascara, high-drama, great length, a well-rounded product for the beginning makeup artist.
Con's: Very thick potion, causes lashes to clump rather easily, becomes flaky after a few  hours of wear.

It's a bit of a trick to get this mascara not to clump, but it can be done, which is more than I could say for some of our drugstore counterparts. It just takes very little product and no more than one coat of the mascara. However, that is all you need of this product, the color is so rich and the product is so thick one layer is all you need. It's a great tool for people who are interested in starting into the
professional makeup scene. It was my first Sephora product and I'll always love it, even thought it was a little frustrating to apply. Not only was the volume spectacular, the length was wonderful as well. Always a 'love it' product, I highly recommend it, although it isn't the mascara I'm using currently (which I love even more than the mascara I'm talking about today, this mascara will have a separate review, where I'll be talking about mascara wands and the difference in lash potions separately). The product would transfer a little, but only if you pushed your lashes up into your lid, so that really wasn't an issue.
Over all I love this product and I recommend it to everyone who is willing to spend a little more time on their makeup daily, just to make sure it's applied correctly.

Total stars out of 5:  *   *   *   *

That's my product review for you this week! Next week I'll talk about tips and tricks to help your mascaras last longer, and helpful hints on how to apply it like a pro, with no clumps and perfectly lush lashes every time!
Until next week.

Media, Back The Fuck Up Before You Get Smacked The Fuck Up.

Ah, what's this? Two blog posts within a month? Impossible! I refuse to believe it.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, I have returned.
You're welcome.

Fun thing I've decided to do this year, I'm going to write down every good thing that happens this year, put it in a jar, and at the end of this year, I'm going to empty the jar and read all of the wonderful memories I reaped from this experience. And, if this year is as wild as I predict, I'm probably going to have a lot to read.
I've met so many new people this month alone, It's hard to believe... That's part of the reason I have such high expectations for 2014. That, and I'm finding myself getting back in touch with a few of my old, wild-as-holy-fuck friends. Some of the things we used to do... *chuckle*
Now that we're older, I'm honestly a little afraid of what we might endeavor to do.. They're just as crazy as I remember.
Older, yes, wiser? Definitely not.

Life is just as convoluted and mysterious as ever. I have no more of a clue as to how it works as I did last year at this time. But one thing is different, now I don't feel like I'm so alone in my struggle. I see teens groping in the dark at the shady concept of  'the future' and what the hell that's supposed to mean. I see those teens, my friends and comrades in the war against a one-size-fits-all education system, trying to maintain their individuality in a world that tells us we aren't old enough to understand what that means yet. A society that tells us we can only find love and acceptance if we fit a cookie-cutter model pre-made for everyone of our born race and sex.
Bullshit.
Individuality is something that cannot be priced, it has no monetary value, but it's more precious than all the treasures the greedy Wall Street fat-cats hold dear. It bothers me to think how our perception of beauty would be different if we were cut off from the influences of the media; how much else of our potential to be raw, unmanipulated individuals has been robbed from us by a corporation?
Simply appalling.

Here's a thing regarding the way we've been taught to perceive our bodies, one of the best arguments I've ever heard.
How can you argue this?
Spoiler, the answer is: you don't.

2014

I should stop starting each of my posts with "I suck at blogging" it's just getting redundant, everyone knows I'm bad.
unapologetically I begin this year with a clean slate. I cut ties, I made new ones, I changed and I'll change more. I met people, I laughed with them, and cried with them, kissed them, cut them and said I was sorry. I loved, I wanted to be loved, and then I was loved. I met a boy, a sweet boy. A beautiful, smart boy. I'm dating this boy. I don't want to screw up, but life is a compilation of screw ups, it's messy and perfectly unperfect. But life is something I'm not ready to give up yet.
I want to thank everyone who has been there for me, even when my problems have been petty. This year has been a huge year of growth for me, coming out of it I feel like I've become almost a completely new person. It's a good feeling.
I'm happier than I've ever been.

2014, I hope you're ready, because this time it's different.
This time it's going to be beautifully unbeautiful. And it's going to be perfect.

God Bless.

SUMMER STUFF

Okay I have a good excuse this time for not blogging I promise.

So as you've probably noticed, it's summer! Yay. Sort of. Summer in Arizona kinda sucks, because it's terribly hot, but in the evening the sunsets are always beautiful, and it cools down. So it's kinda a neat little "night life" we have going on here, only because it's too hot to do anything in the afternoon.

Wearing shorts and flip-flops, walking along the still-warm sidewalk with your best friend, just chatting and watching the sun set, trying to count the stars while we lie on our backs, then walking home with the moon, tied to our sides like a brilliant white balloon ... That will always be one of my favorite summer memories. Surreal, in a way, but majestic. That's how I describe the evenings in Arizona. When the monsoon comes, it gets intensely more beautiful. The rain will wash the dust out of the air, and the next day will be all muggy and nasty, but when the Phoenicians (which is the term used instead of "Arizonians") come out as the sun lays its self down to rest, the city will glow with excitement, shimmering with life. I remember going to my grandmother's house, up in the higher part of the state, where it isn't so hot, where there is less people, but a tighter community. My grandmother's house is a huge 7 acre lot, with trees and pastures and gardens that she maintains herself, even though she's 84. She has a huge hill that I used to climb up at night, and watch the shining lights of Phoenix below, thinking about my parents and what they might be doing. I would stay at her house for weeks at a time during my father's cancer and other illnesses. Not only did it teach me of the value of my own self, but it taught me what it was to care for others, and to care for myself. It taught me what real strength meant. That real strength was getting down on your knees and crying in front of the people who's opinion of you you value most, then looking them in the eye, getting up on your feet, taking their hand, and moving a step forward slowly.
Grandma always smiled and said "the Lord will provide." And to this day, I hold that closest to my heart. Those experiences are my foundation. Everything that upholds who I am today can be found in what God did for me when I was at my most frightened. If anyone asks me where my loyalties lie, they wont have to look far. I only serve God. I realize I'm only 15, I've got a long way to go on this narrow road, and I know I'm not wise, I know I'll make mistakes, but I also know that when I do, God will always be there with an outstretched hand.
So yeah. That was revealing. I've tried hiding how I really felt all the time, and I came to realize that it just severely messes you up. So it comes to a personal decision about being honest to yourself,  being honest to God, and being honest to people you love. Nobody likes a liar.

Arizona summers have always been the time for me to mature. And I feel as if I've taken another wonderful step into becoming the person God has in mind for me to be. I'm talking about dance lessons. I know it doesn't sound like a huge deal, but it means mountains to me. I don't think I've smiled so big in a while. Dancing makes me feel graceful, even though I know I'm not. I know I'm not any good at it, but when you're as bad as I am, the only thing you can do is improve! I know God is going to teach me something, I just have to wait and see. I know confidence is one of them, and that's been a really hard one for me, I just DON'T have any. But this helps, I can see it already. It's like climbing a completely vertical cliff, the top seems so far away, but you push yourself and you climb because you know if you give up, you'll fall.

That's my blog for today, TADA! Talk to ya later ;)

GOD BLESS
